How to secure your furniture during a move

If you’ve decided to work with one of the best moving companies Fort Collins has to offer, the kinds of professional that are going to save you a lot of time, a lot effort, and a lot of pain on your back, you’re already ahead of the game when it comes to moving.

Unfortunately, moving forward with full-service movers can get pretty expensive. Sure, it’s nice to know that you don’t have to pack anything or lift a single finger of your own to get your entire home from one place to another (and then unpacked again), but most of us don’t have the kind of cash laying around to take advantage of those full-service movers.

Thankfully, when you decide to secure and pack your furniture for moving, you don’t have to worry about blowing up your budget when you hire a team of moving professionals. You’re going to be to drop your moving budget by 35% or more, and you really aren’t going to have to put in that much extra work.

Here are a couple of tricks to help you better secure your furniture during a move so that it arrives exactly in the same condition as it was when it left.

Invest in quality packing supplies

The biggest mistake that people make (outside of not hiring the best Fort Collins moving companies around) is cheapening out on the packing supplies that they use to secure their possessions.

There is no amount of “extra wrapping” that you are going to be able to do to overcome poor packing supplies. If your tape isn’t sticky, if your bubble wrap isn’t robust, and if you’re “protective layers” aren’t all that protective you are likely going to be dealing with some broken pieces of furniture upon arrival.

Make sure that you buy quality tape, have a number of blankets on hand, that you almost over do it with the bubblewrap, and that you purchase 1” x 1” pieces of pine (or small pieces of plywood) to better protect furniture surfaces from damage.

Wrap everything twice as much as you think you should – and then cover it with blankets

There’s going to be a point time where you are wrapping up your furniture in bubblewrap that you think you have reached a pretty reasonable layer of protection. But rather than just go with that, you’ll want to continue wrapping at least a little bit more (and ideally twice as much) so that you know that your furniture is going to arrive in picture perfect condition.

Once you have completely wrapped it up with an extra layer of security, you’re going to want to throw moving blankets on top of your furniture as well – just to give it that extra bit of protection.

Yes, it’s going to feel like overkill, but it’s always better to have to spend a little bit of extra time unwrapping your furniture in perfect condition then having to pay to replace items that shouldn’t have been broken in the first place. The best moving companies in Fort Collins are going to be delicate with your furniture, but only overprotection will give you the peace of mind that you deserve.
